OXILP QLTT Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test

The Heads

The QLTT consists of four ‘Heads’ as follows:

I want to thank you and the staff of OXILP for all of your help. Please let everyone know that we send our regards. I believe that the revision classes were well worth the time and effort.

Fred Ross III, 2007

Head I: Property

The Test for Head I will be of three hours’ duration, with additional reading time. It is divided into 2 parts. Part A examines Conveyancing. Part B examines Wills, Probate and Administration.

Each part of the paper carries 50 marks and the allocation of those marks between the questions in each part is marked on the paper. There is no choice of question in either part of the paper. Candidates are not required to pass each part of the paper separately, but must obtain at least 50% of the available marks in aggregate.

Head II: Litigation

The Test for Head II is of three hours duration, with additional reading time. It is divided into two parts, a part on the English Legal System (criminal) and a part on civil litigation. Within each part, there is no choice of question. Each part tests both evidence and procedure.

Head III: Professional Conduct and Accounts

The Test for Head III will be of three hours’ duration, with no additional reading time. It consists of multiple choice questions which will be marked by computer.

The paper for Head III is divided into 2 parts. All questions are multiple choice and carry 2 marks for a correct answer. For each incorrect answer, half a mark will be deducted. You may therefore wish to leave blank questions to which you do not know the answer, rather than guessing and losing half a mark. All questions on this paper are compulsory. In order to pass this Head, you must pass each part of the paper.

Head IV: Principles of Common Law

You will be given 60 minutes to prepare answers to questions on a case which has been notified to you 7 days in advance. The oral Test itself will be of 30 minutes duration. Head IV is a test both of competence in the English Language and of your understanding of the principles of common law.
